Watch The Elders’ new State of Hope Talk this Mandela Day

The world needs hope, now, more than ever.

Today, on Nelson Mandela Day, we are launching a new State of Hope Talk featuring Chair of The Elders, Mary Robinson.

Our founder, Nelson Mandela, dedicated his life to peace, justice and human rights. When he brought The Elders together for the first time on his birthday, 18 July 2007, he called on us to: “support courage where there is fear, foster agreement where there is conflict, and inspire hope where there is despair.”

In her State of Hope Talk, Mary Robinson explores the inspiration we can gain from the great leadership of our dearly-missed friends and leaders, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

As they both showed us time and time again, we must look for the light in our troubled world and always act in the interests of our common humanity if we are to make the future a kinder place.

“Imagine the world we could create together if we fixed our gaze on the goodness and the light.”
